Anxiety Therapy in Houston

Working with a Houston psychologist to understand and manage anxiety — and stop letting it run your life.

When Anxiety Takes Over
Anxiety is a natural part of being human — it exists for a reason. But when it starts running in the background constantly, pulling you into endless what-ifs, keeping your body in a permanent state of alert, or making decisions for you that you’d never consciously choose, it has stopped being useful.

You might recognize it as a steady hum of tension that never quite goes away. Or it might hit harder — sudden, overwhelming, paralyzing. Either way, if anxiety is shaping what you do, what you avoid, and how you experience your life, that’s worth taking seriously.

What’s Actually Happening
One of the most consistent patterns I see in anxiety is this: (1) people over-estimate the likelihood that something will go wrong, and (2) people over-estimate how bad it will actually be if it did. Those two distortions, operating quietly beneath the surface, can make the world feel far more threatening than it is.

That’s not a character flaw. It’s a habit of thinking — and habits can change.

How We Work on It
Anxiety therapy in Houston with me draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to examine and reshape the thought patterns driving your anxiety, alongside Humanistic and Existential approaches that look at the deeper questions underneath it — what you believe about yourself, what you’re afraid of losing, and what kind of life you actually want to be living.

In practical terms, we’ll work to:
• Distinguish between real threats and imagined ones
• Develop clearer, more grounded ways of interpreting situations
• Understand your body’s stress response — fight, flight, freeze, or fawn — and learn to work with it rather than against it
• Recognize which fears need attention and which you can begin to release
• Build a more stable foundation so that anxiety no longer dictates your choices or limits your life

Who This Work Is For
I work with anxiety across a wide range of presentations — generalized anxiety, social anxiety, performance anxiety, and the particular anxiety that comes from navigating the world as someone whose identity, relationships, or beliefs don’t fit the mainstream.

If you’re LGBTQIA+, kinky, non-monogamous, or simply living a life that doesn’t match the default template, you may have found that anxiety is tangled up with experiences of not fitting, not belonging, or not feeling safe to be fully yourself. That intersection is something I understand personally and work with directly.

What Changes Over Time
The goal isn’t to eliminate anxiety, that’s neither possible nor desirable. Anxiety is information. The goal is to develop a different relationship with it: one where it no longer runs the show, where you can hear what it’s telling you without being controlled by it, and where it takes up significantly less of your life.

Most clients find that as their relationship with anxiety shifts, other things shift too — their relationships, their confidence, their willingness to pursue what they actually want.
